Flow
My latest changes to FlashStuf have included a new style (layout) for the site. FlashStuf has always kept a boxy layout since I redesigned it in 2005 (when I got the .com name); so I came up with the idea for a “boxless” layout.
My first step was to remove the borders around each “module.” This meant the sidebar and main content div’s that contained any kind of content. I kept everything the traditional greyscale, off-black background (#111111) and the yellow links. But this time, I knew I needed something else. A catchy picture in the header. Not some simple gradient to make things look fancy, but just something that flows. I came up with what you’ll see if you visit the special link below. You’ll even see more as your screen gets wider. This was the main attraction- tablet in hand, I went picking my text-colored white and its variants, a nice neon blue and greenish color, and streaked them across the banner. I curved the top of the side bars, made the headings predominant enough so there didn’t have to be any edges to divide up the text, and changed the default font to my favorite, Lucida Grande. The final thing was picking a link color- and I’m still torn between the classic yellow and the very nice deep-pink that was recommended to me.
Anyways, for anyone who reads this and may also visit my other site, this is a sneak-peek at what is to come and what the hell I’ve been talking about this whole time.
